On the vast land of Wusu City in the Tacheng Prefecture of Xinjiang, the once barren desert is being transformed into a green energy treasure trove. As a key project for the "military‑civilian integration" development in Xinjiang, the 1 GW PV project of Xinjiang Xingqihang New Energy Co., Ltd. is now entering a critical construction phase.

 

I. Project Overview

 

 

This project is not only a standalone power station, but also a vital component of the 2 GW PV project for military‑civilian integration in the Seventh Division (Huyanghe City), bearing the mission of exploring new pathways for optimizing regional energy structures. Located in Guertu Town, Wusu City, Xinjiang – an area rich in sand resources – the project innovatively utilizes desert resources, aiming to build a 10‑GW‑class new‑energy cluster.

 

The core scope of this phase includes the construction of a new 220 kV step‑up substation (with energy storage facilities) and approximately 79 km of 220 kV transmission lines. Upon completion, the project is expected to generate approximately 1.4 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving 500,000 tons of standard coal and reducing CO₂ emissions by about 1 million tons per year, injecting strong momentum into the clean energy transition of Tacheng and Xinjiang as a whole, and contributing to the "dual carbon" goals. The protection and stability control system of this project serves as a critical defense to ensure the safe and reliable integration of this massive green energy hub into the main grid – its stable operation leaves no room for error.

The transmission of power protection and stability control commands demands high network availability and self‑healing capability. The MRD switches deployed in this project support the proprietary MRD‑Ring® ring network redundancy protocol, achieving rapid self‑healing and switchover within 50 ms in the event of an unexpected link interruption. This is far faster than the propagation speed of power faults, ensuring that critical protection trip commands and stability control signals are delivered in real time and reliably under any single‑point failure, building the last technical defense line for grid security.
