MRD Switches Deployed in Agricultural Machinery Control Systems

Published: 2026-08-20

Against the backdrop of accelerating intelligence in agricultural equipment, agricultural machinery manufacturers are entering a new phase of reliability requirements for electronic control systems. MRD has recently completed delivery of its unmanaged Gigabit DIN‑rail industrial switches, which have been deployed in the electronic control systems of multiple agricultural machinery models at Jiangsu Muyang Group, undertaking the critical tasks of sensor data aggregation and automated control command transmission.

01 Project Background

Jiangsu Muyang Group is a leading agricultural machinery manufacturer in China, with products covering grain storage, feed processing, drying equipment, and other agricultural equipment sectors. In the process of advancing product intelligence upgrades, Muyang Group has imposed higher demands on the data transmission capability of its electronic control systems – stable and reliable data exchange and coordinated interaction must be achieved among the various sensors, controllers, and actuators within the equipment to truly unlock the full potential of the automation control system.

The operating scenarios of agricultural machinery pose multiple challenges to industrial communication devices:

Wide‑Temperature Demands: Grain storage and drying equipment operate in environments with significant day‑night temperature differences. Workshop temperatures in summer often exceed 50°C, while outdoor deployment in winter must withstand temperatures below –20°C – devices must operate stably across a wide temperature range.

Dust and Moisture Ingress: Grain processing generates large amounts of dust, and humidity levels remain persistently high in certain process stages. The enclosure protection and internal component reliability of devices face continuous challenges.

Limited Space: The control cabinets of agricultural machinery have limited layout space, requiring communication devices to be compact, easy to install, while maintaining full port density and electrical protection capabilities.

Complex Electromagnetic Environment: High‑power equipment such as frequency converters and motor drives are densely deployed, generating severe harmonics and conducted interference, which imposes stringent requirements on the anti‑interference capability of devices.

Long Maintenance Response Cycles: Equipment is often deployed in fields or remote plant areas, with extended maintenance response times. This requires communication devices to offer high reliability and stability to reduce failure rates and minimize maintenance frequency.

Faced with these complex scenarios and stringent requirements, agricultural machinery needs an industrial switch that can truly withstand on‑site challenges – one that not only operates continuously and stably under the combined pressures of high/low temperatures, dust, and moisture, but also fits into compact installation spaces and supports long‑term reliable maintenance. The MRD MTX140 Series industrial switches were designed precisely for this purpose.

02 MRD Involvement

MTX140 Series Industrial Switches

The MRD MTX140 Series industrial switches serve as a real‑time data exchange platform for the electronic control systems, providing solid assurance for on‑site network interconnection and operational support through stable and reliable industrial communication capabilities.

Wide‑Temperature Reliability – Unaffected by Heat or Cold:

The MTX140 Series features a fanless design and supports a wide operating temperature range from –40°C to +75°C, readily coping with extreme temperature environments in agricultural scenarios. It ensures stable operation under various climatic conditions, without performance fluctuations or communication interruptions due to temperature changes.

Rugged Enclosure – Ready for Complex Environments:

The MTX140 Series adopts a die‑cast aluminum alloy housing with IP30 protection rating, offering excellent dust and moisture resistance to withstand on‑site dust ingress and humid conditions. The aluminum alloy housing is robust, durable, and highly corrosion‑resistant, making it well‑suited for long‑term use in the complex environments typical of agricultural machinery.

Compact Size – Fits Tight Spaces:

The MTX140 Series measures just 72 mm × 140 mm × 110 mm and weighs no more than 1.3 kg. The DIN‑rail mounting method allows for easy installation even in compact control cabinets, saving valuable cabinet space and enabling more flexible layout of the electronic control system.

Redundant Power Supply – Ensuring Continuous Operation:

The MTX140 Series supports redundant dual‑input power supply design (12/24/48 VDC and 24 VAC), with reverse polarity protection and overload current protection. It automatically switches to the backup supply in the event of power fluctuations or single‑path power failure, ensuring continuous and stable device operation. The devices also support DIP switch‑based audible/visual alarm output and relay alarm interfaces, immediately notifying O&M personnel in case of power or port anomalies, effectively shortening fault response time.

Full Gigabit Performance – Supporting High‑Speed Data Transmission:

The MTX140 Series is equipped with 24 10/100/1000 Base‑T Gigabit Ethernet ports, with a backplane bandwidth of up to 48 Gbps, supporting full Gigabit wire‑speed forwarding. This fully meets the transmission requirements of high‑bandwidth services such as sensor data and control commands in agricultural machinery automation control systems, avoiding control delays or data loss caused by network congestion, and ensuring the real‑time performance and accuracy of the automation system.

Intelligent Protection – Optimizing Network Quality:

The MTX140 Series supports QoS functionality, which can be flexibly enabled via DIP switches. Together with the BSP broadcast storm protection feature, it effectively suppresses abnormal broadcast traffic in the network, preventing broadcast storms from interfering with control system communications, optimizing network communication quality, ensuring priority transmission of critical control data, and enhancing overall system communication stability and reliability.

This delivery marks yet another milestone for MRD industrial communication products entering the mainstream supply chain of agricultural equipment. As a leading enterprise in the domestic industrial communication sector, Shanghai MRDCom Co., Ltd. continues to drive the in‑depth practice of domestic substitution in core control areas of agricultural equipment through its independently controllable technological solutions and benchmark‑class quality standards, contributing reliable Chinese communication power to the industry's intelligent upgrade.
